Orange refers to the tree Citrus sinensis, which belongs to the Citrus genus, and its fruit. It was first introduced to Turkish lands from Portugal, and because of this, it was called 'Portakal' (which means 'Portugal fruit'). Over time, the name was simplified to just "portakal".
